Max Verstappen Strikes Pole Position at Italian Grand Prix with Narrow Lead Over Lando Norris
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen delivered a remarkable qualifying lap, securing the pole position for the Italian Grand Prix, finishing just 0.077 seconds ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris. Norris managed to qualify slightly better than his teammate and championship leader, Oscar Piastri.
Ferrari holds onto hopes for a podium finish during their home race, with Charles Leclerc starting in fourth position. His teammate, Lewis Hamilton, had a solid qualifying but will start from 10th due to a penalty received in the previous race.
This places Mercedes drivers George Russell and local favorite Kimi Antonelli on the third row, followed closely by rookie Gabriel Bortoleto in an impressive P7, just ahead of his manager, Fernando Alonso, in the Aston Martin. Yuki Tsunoda from Red Bull rounds out the top ten.
For the Italian team Racing Bulls, the weekend has been challenging so far. Liam Lawson qualified last, and his teammate, Isack Hadjar, who shone on the podium last time, will start from the pits after qualifying 16th while taking on a new power unit.
In a similar situation, Alpine’s Pierre Gasly will also start from the pit lane due to a new power unit, having originally qualified 19th, just behind his teammate Franco Colapinto.
The 2025 Italian Grand Prix will kick off at 3 PM local time. Make sure to catch our live coverage starting at 2 PM.
